Course Overview
A 6-week course for people who would like to consider how being 'trauma aware' can improve our well-being. Suitable for those who are ready to approach this topic, as well as those who are working with people affected by traumatic injury. Tuesdays, 1-2.30pm
This course is for people who would like to consider how being ‘trauma aware’ can improve our well-being. It is suitable for people who are ready to approach this topic, as well as people who are working with those affected by traumatic injury. It is not a replacement for personal therapy. The content of this course may be adapted as scientific research, theories or course requirements change. Please note: this course is not designed for help with speaking languages more confidently; please see our brochure for our language courses. This course is aimed at people who would like to maintain and sustain their mental health and well-being. It is not a therapy session, is not suitable for those experiencing a mental health crisis and not intended to replace any medical advice or healthcare services. As these discussions will actively include discussion about traumatic injury, if you have a severe and enduring mental health consideration, or are currently navigating a mental health crisis, you may wish to discuss this with your doctor, community mental health team, or the course tutor before
enrolling. We ask all attendees to take responsibility for their own learning and well-being, to collaborate in a way that ensures a safe learning environment for the whole group, and only take part in activities which feel right for them. No guarantee of any specific results is given or implied.
Prosp Is This Right For Me
By the end of the course, learners will be able to: define what we mean by the word trauma; consider the signs and impact of traumatic injury; explore integrative options for “treatment” and healing; discuss the nature of “Trauma Releasing Exercises”.
Prosp What Will I Learn
Sessions explore a mixture of theory and practical exercises; there may be written activities as well as the potential for learning through listening, reading, watching videos, asking questions and contributing to group discussion, as well as (where relevant) mindfulness and guided meditation. Book, app and video recommendations may also be offered during the course, which are optional to consider; always check suitability before you invest. Learners are empowered and encouraged to participate where they feel comfortable, as appropriate, in a way that benefits their health and well-being. There is no role play on this course.
Prosp How Will I Learn
This session does not offer a qualification. You may ask for a Certificate of Attendance, if you have been able to demonstrate evidence of your learning.
