Course Overview
A 12-week course to help women who have been subjected to abuse to regain ownership of their lives, Thursdays 09.30-11.30am
This course is aimed at women who would like to maintain and sustain their mental health and well-being. It is not a therapy group, is not suitable for those experiencing a mental health crisis and not intended to replace any medical advice or healthcare services. The Own My Life programme has been developed by Natalie Collins, who has given permission to adapt (within reason) course content, as appropriate. For more information, visit: https://www.ownmylifecourse.org/ If you have a trauma-related diagnosis, or a severe and enduring mental health consideration, you may wish to discuss this with your doctor, community mental health team, or the course tutor before enrolling. We ask all attendees to take responsibility for their own learning and well-being, to collaborate in a way that ensures a safe learning environment for the whole group, and only take part in activities which feel right for them. No guarantee of any specific results is given or implied.
Prosp Is This Right For Me
Sessions will include the opportunity for learners to: List abusive and non-abusive behaviours. Raise consciousness of male violence including awareness of misogyny and controlling behaviours. Identify trauma responses and strategies for increasing emotional safety. Explore the Power Threat Meaning framework. Recognise aspects of victim blaming. Content Warning: there is discussion in one session about the reality of sexual violence, as well as themes around the impact of trauma in several classes. Learners are not required or encouraged to recount traumatic experiences.
Prosp What Will I Learn
Sessions explore theory behind human behaviours and include written activities; the potential for learning is also provided through listening, reading, watching videos, asking questions and contributing to group discussion. Book, app and video recommendations may also be offered during the course, which are optional to consider; always check suitability before you invest. Learners are empowered and encouraged to participate where they feel comfortable, as appropriate, in a way that benefits their health and well-being.
