Course Overview

For those who have completed Italian Improvers years 1 and 2 and feel ready to move on or who are new but are at the required level, Thursdays 7-9pm

Open Is this course right for me?

You should have studied Italian for 280 hours in the recent past, but you may have maintained your level of Italian by spending time in the country and/or with Italian friends. You may have started your journey on the Languages Ladder.

Open What will I learn?

You will focus on accuracy in listening, reading, writing and in speaking. You will be using all 4 skills at languages ladder level 6 – 7: (This is a similar level to CEFR A2/B1).
The course book is Nuovo Espresso 2 linked to online video course with activities and worksheets. If you wish you could buy a dictionary or grammar book to support your private study and homework. The grammar used could be Nuova Grammatica Pratica della Lingua Italiana – Susanna Nocchi. Topics to study are: Talking about habits and give recommendations; To describe feelings and symptoms; Talking about the past and future events; To express likes and dislikes; Describing places and talking about holidays. Grammar points: regular and irregular verbs at present and past, future and conditional tenses, use of imperative and subjunctive, recap of prepositions, possessive pronouns, recap direct and indirect pronouns, introductions of relative pronouns/adverbs and conjunctions.

Open How will I learn?

The tutor will organise activities to practise listening, speaking, writing and reading in Italian. You will sometimes work in pairs or in small groups with your fellow students or listen to sound files that will be included in the weekly PowerPoint. They may come from the course book resources or be spoken by the tutor. The emphasis will be on grammatical accuracy in order to improve your confidence in speaking, listening and writing in Italian; as well as activities to strengthen your pronunciation and accuracy.

Open Will I gain a qualification?

You will have the opportunity to climb the Languages Ladder by receiving a Grade Certificate in one or more skills (speaking, listening, reading, or writing. The scheme is optional, but many learners decide to take this route. Your tutor will give you more information.
