Course Overview
For those who have completed Machine Sewing Beginners and/or who already have basic machine sewing skills. Simple practical projects to improve your sewing machine skills, Wednesdays 7-9pm

If you have completed the Machine Sewing Beginners course this improvers course will be perfect to develop your skills. If you have basic sewing machine skills and can confidently thread up a machine, wind a bobbin and construct a simple item such as a bag or cushion cover then this course would be right for you.

Open What will I learn?

How to sew and construct simple seams, hems, insert zips, buttons & button holes. How to follow templates, simple patterns and how to trace basic patterns. How to decorative techniques with the machine - such as piping, embroidery and applique. By the end of the course you will have a good understanding of advanced sewing skills using a machine, as well as basic pattern cutting. Throughout the sessions you will develop your skills to produce a product such as a drawstring bag, toiletry bag, cushion cover, apron or simple garment.

Through tutor demonstrations and guidance, working at your own pace to develop skills and achieve your goals. Learners will produce a range of samples for future reference as well as a final product.

You will not gain a formal qualification however you can request a Certification of Achievement from your tutor at the end of the course.

You may wish to join another sewing or dressmaking class.

Open Please bring

You will need to bring your own basic sewing kit including; scissors (fabric & paper), tape measure, pins, sewing needles, thread & unpicker. You will also need to bring some fabric for sampling (could be scrap fabric) and some fabric of your choice for your product. Your tutor will recommend fabric type and length at your first session depending on choice of product. If you have your own machine please bring to each session where possible. It is best to learn on your own machine to become familiar with it for future projects. If you don’t have a machine or are unable to bring one with you please let us know in advance so that we can supply one for you.
