Course Overview
First steps in fusing clear and coloured glass to make small decorative items. Fee covers the cost of materials, Saturday 10am-4pm
The course is designed for those with an interest in kiln fused (warm) glass and/or beginners looking for a new creative hobby that is both rewarding and therapeutic. No previous knowledge or experience needed to join this class. Returners are welcome to join the course and will be given the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and skills through the construction of a more ambitious decorative item using various glass fusing techniques.

To work safely and effectively. To cut and grind glass safely. To gain knowledge of what ‘fusing compatibility glass’ means and its importance in producing successful glasswork. To learn the basic elements of design. To design, plan, prepare and make two small decorative glass items ready for kiln firing (beginners) or to design, plan, prepare and make a more ambitious decorative item using various glass fusing techniques (returners). To recognise the importance of experimentation as the results of the kiln firing of materials can be unpredictable. To gain knowledge of how to prepare a kiln for firing. To develop an awareness of the influence of colour, line and texture to inform the design of kiln fused (warm) glass items.
Prosp What Will I Learn
There will be demonstrations of the techniques, tooling, materials and equipment used in the design and making of kiln fused (warm) glass items. The relevant techniques being further developed through practical exercises, and the design and construction of decorative glass items ready for kiln firing. It will be useful preparation for the course to log onto www.pinterest.co.uk which is a useful resource if you choose to generate some of your own design ideas for your small decorative fused glass items.

There is no formal qualification, but you may request a certificate of attendance from your tutor.

Community Learning MK is planning future courses in the making of 2D and 3D creative glasswork items. Your tutor will be able to give you specific information about any of these day and evening courses.
Prosp Next Steps
Glass, tools and equipment are provided however, a small fee will be required to cover the costs of making your item. Please bring £20 to cover this cost which is payable directly to the tutor at the beginning of the session. If you are in possession of safety glasses, you may like to bring these with you. Please wear old clothing/bring an apron. You may also wish to bring along some snacks and a drink as there are no facilities on site.
