For those who have completed Spanish Beginners, or one term of tuition, Thursdays 7-8.30pm

You may have completed an introductory course, such as Spanish First Steps (15 hours) or equivalent. You will continue to make progress by acquiring more skills at this Breakthrough stage. The course follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), level A1.

Open What will I learn?

Over the 10 weeks of the course, you will learn to: talk about free time activities and daily routines; ask and tell the time; express feelings; describe physical attributes and name different body parts; order food in a restaurant and handle basic transactions using euros; buy in different shops: asking for products, asking prices, making payments; ask for location and give directions. By the end of the 10 weeks, you will have consolidated the following grammar concepts: use of adverbs of frequency; use of reflexive verbs and reflexive pronouns; present tense verbs in formal and informal scenarios; use of quantifiers: muy, mucho, mucha, muchos, muchas; interrogatives: cómo, dónde, qué cuál, cuáles, cuántos, cuántas; demonstratives: este, esta, estos, estas, esto.

Open How will I learn?

You will learn in a group of no more than thirteen people by engaging in conversations utilising basic language structures in pairs or small groups. There will also be games, quizzes, homework, role play. You will listen to Spanish singers and watch videos. The lesson will be delivered via PowerPoint. We will give you access to Google classroom where all the course materials and assignments will be uploaded.

Open Will I gain a qualification?

At the end of the 10 weeks, you can ask your tutor for a certificate of completion of 15 hours of Spanish learning.
