Open Is this course right for me?

Have you ever had an idea for a new business or an idea to make a current business better? Although the idea may be good, being able to present your idea to other people is key to the success of taking it forward. You will develop skills to create a spreadsheet that solves problems and displays numeric and non-numeric information by applying suitable tools and techniques for presentations and business plans. You will also receive support with planning your next education or employment path. Whilst maths and English will be appropriately supported you will need a basic level of English. As part of the first session, we ask learners to complete a short English and basic numeracy assessment, as you will be building a portfolio over the 12 weeks and will need good understanding to complete the written work. You will be supported throughout the course by your tutor and other learners.

Open What will I learn?

You will cover the following units: Unit A2: Developing a Personal Progression Plan - This unit will help you find out what opportunities are available to you and how to get to the next stage. You will carry out a self-audit, identifying what your strengths are and what you need to develop to be able to meet your progression goals. Unit B9: Presenting a Business Idea - In this unit, you will develop the skills to prepare and present an idea to an audience. You will learn how important it is to be well prepared, making sure you know everything you need to and that you have covered the most important points in your presentation to ensure your business idea is convincing. Unit IT8: Creating a Spreadsheet to Solve Problems - In this unit, you will learn how to create spreadsheets to solve problems and present information in different ways, using numbers, text and graphs.

Open How will I learn?

You will learn mainly by using the computer to work on practical tasks; by means of question-and-answer sessions and demonstrations by the tutor. You will receive handouts to help you practice at home. As part of this course, you will need to access internet to use our online learning platform, Google Classroom, to complete course work.

You will achieve the Pearson BTEC Level 1 in Vocational Studies.
