The course is designed for those with an interest in stained glass making and/or beginners looking for a new creative hobby that is both rewarding and therapeutic. No previous knowledge or experience is needed to join this class.

Open What will I learn?

During the day you will learn and practice one of the techniques used in the construction of stained (cool) glass items. This will then be applied by you in the safe and effective making of a piece of copper foiled jewellery or a copper foiled sun catcher. You will also develop an awareness of the influence of colour, line and texture to inform the design of stained glass items.

Open How will I learn?

You will have demonstrations of the techniques, tooling, materials and equipment used in the design and making of stained glass items such as panels, sun catchers, lamp shades, wall lights, mirrors, terrariums, clocks, boxes etc. The relevant techniques will be further developed through practical exercises and the construction of your own individual item. To help you with this course it is recommended that you log on to the Internet to familiarise yourself with existing designs of copper foiled jewellery and sun catchers. It is also suggested that you make some sketches of your own design ideas for your bespoke copper foiled item.

There is no formal qualification but you may request a certificate of
attendance from your tutor.

Open Please bring

It is not necessary to bring anything. If you are in possession of safety glasses, you may like to bring these with you. You may also wish to bring along some snacks and a drink as there are no facilities on site. Please note that the solder you will use contains lead. You may wish to bring cotton gloves to protect your skin when handling it. Glass, tools and equipment are provided, however a small fee will be required to cover the costs of making your sun catcher. Please bring £20 to cover this cost which is payable directly to the tutor at the beginning of the session.
