Open Is this course right for me?

This course is suitable for anyone thinking about working in childcare. It will support you to develop your understanding of child development and the physical and psychological needs of children. This accredited course will brighten up your CV and give you an opportunity to develop some key transferable skills. The first session is an induction session where you will be asked to complete a short-written English and basic numeracy assessment. Your continuation onto further weeks is dependent upon successful completion of these assessments. Any evidence of prior qualifications in English and/or maths should be brought to the first class. In order to enrol on this course: You will need to commit to regular and punctual attendance every week. You need to be able to read, write and understand English.

Open What will I learn?

You will complete the following units: Understanding child development - The aim of this unit is to give you an introduction to child development from the ages 0 – 5 years. It supports you to understand the key stages of development. Understanding the physical and psychological needs of children - This unit is about recognising the physical and psychological needs of children and how such needs can be met by a variety of agencies and strategies.

You will learn in variety of ways including, group and individual discussions and activities, tutorials, practical activities and independent research. You will build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding.
